Powerful 1050 watt universal motor with manual tool change system and digital control option – extremely robust and optimized for milling work of all kinds – especially suitable for use on portal milling machines or CNC routers.

The FME-U DI offers a completely new concept. For the first time, spindle bearings are used in a stable, robust aluminum body for optimal precision and minimal wear.
Changing milling cutters, among other things, is possible in seconds and without tools – a revolution.

DI stands for direct control via the controller. The required speed for the application can be selected or programmed directly there. This reduces noise, increases duty cycle, and decreases wear.

The motor is attached directly and rigidly to the portal via 4 threaded connections.

The motor, bearings, and seals are designed for use with extended duty cycles.

Full-wave electronic speed control ensures a constant speed even during demanding milling operations. Speed preselection and soft start are standard features at AMB.

The motor is double-insulated and offers maximum protection against external influences.

The electronics are perfectly protected against dust and external influences by a complete potting compound – in comparison, other providers often work with unprotected electronics with a shorter lifespan.

Electronic thermal overload protection protects against overheating.

Genuine carbon brushes made in Germany – with integrated shut-off. This prevents damage to the commutator when the carbon is worn. Additional silicone pads between the carbon and the pressure spring ensure a long service life through vibration damping.

FAQ

Q: I bought some inexpensive ER16 collets from Asia online. However, only three out of five collets fit in the AMB holder. Even with the collet loose, the cutter can only be inserted with significant resistance. What could be the reason for this? A: We frequently receive questions like this. Unfortunately, not everything offered "cheaply" on the internet is actually good. As we all know, paper is patient – it's impossible to manufacture collets with 4Mhy runout "cheaply." In this case, the inner diameter is outside the tolerance and therefore too small. Consequently, the clamping system can no longer grip the collet. OUR TIP: Return these collets to the manufacturer and buy precision tools made in Germany.

Q: Is the clamping depth of the tool always the same? A: Yes, there is an adjustable depth stop inside that moves backwards synchronously with the lever movement, so that the tool is always clamped in the same way (the system is patent pending).

Q: How accurately can tools be clamped repeatedly? A: The repeatability of the depth stop is approximately 1-2/100 mm.

Q: How is the device attached to the gantry? A: Four M6 mounting threads, 10 mm deep, tightening torque 7 Nm, and four 5H7 dowel pins, 10 mm deep, as anti-rotation pins. A 43 mm clamping neck is not required.

Q: What is the torsional force at the tool holder? A: The torsional force at the milling cutter is approximately 5 Nm.

Q: What signal is used to adjust the speed? A: A 0-10V DC signal. IMPORTANT: Please ensure that the controller provides an analog signal. If the controller provides a digital signal (also called a PWM signal), a digital-to-analog converter is required between the controller and the machine.

Q: How does the spindle behave at 0V control voltage? A: At 0V the spindle is stationary; from approximately 1-9V the speed increases from the minimum to the maximum value; from 9-10V the spindle runs at maximum speed.

Q: Why is an additional power supply needed for the speed control? A: Unlike many DIY speed control solutions found online, we use a galvanically isolated optocoupler for signal exchange. In the event of a failure of the gantry control or the milling motor's speed electronics, this ensures that mains voltage is present via the signal line. The signal side is therefore completely separate from the power electronics. This necessitates a separate power supply.

Q: What is the current draw at a supply voltage of 10...29V DC? A: The power supply unit must be able to deliver at least 40 mA DC.

Q: What is the input resistance of the 0-10V control input? A: It is approximately 36 kOhms.
